What is Gloucestershire’s
Year of Reading?
Gloucestershire ‘s Year of Reading (GYOR) is a shared initiative to celebrate the joy of reading and build on Gloucestershire’s strong reading culture.
There are so many ways to read and reasons why. Words are all around us, in books, on our phones and computer screens, on street signs. We read so we can lead our everyday lives, but we also read for the pleasure a good story can bring.
The GYOR is an opportunity for all communities in the county to come together and have conversations about the importance of reading and the joy it can bring. So that Gloucestershire becomes a county of reading communities.
Whether you’re a confident reader or a fledgling reader, a teacher or a pupil, a parent, family member or a carer, we hope you’ll find something here to help and inspire you.
There are resources, activities and volunteering opportunities for everyone.
The aims of the campaign are to:
To develop positive messaging and dialogue about reading across the county.
To focus on families and shared reading cultures.
To provide clear information about and access to: reading activities and resources for schools, families and communities.
The GYOR is the first step in our long term aim to create Gloucestershire: A Reading County.
